Spelling & Grammar
WriteRoom uses macOS to check spelling and grammar and correct as you type, which helps, because I really can't spell.
Highlighted Errors
Misspelled words and grammar problems are underlined.
To set your preferred default
- WriteRoom > Settings > Typing > Highlight spelling errors, Highlight grammar errors
To change just the front window
- Edit > Spelling and Checking > Highlight Spelling Errors, Highlight Grammar Errors
The same menu is in the editor's Control-click menu.
Autocorrect
WriteRoom corrects spelling and applies your text replacements as you type. Press Delete right after a correction to undo it. Smart quotes and dashes are off until you turn them on.
To change autocorrect
- WriteRoom > Settings > Typing
Autocorrect leaves code, links, and math alone.
Checking Panel
The checking panel steps through problems one at a time.
To show the checking panel
- Edit > Spelling and Checking > Show Spelling and Grammar
To go to the next or previous problem
- Edit > Spelling and Checking > Check Next (Command-;)
- Edit > Spelling and Checking > Check Previous (Shift-Command-;)
Press Return to replace the problem and go to the next one, or Option-Return to replace it and close the panel. Ignore skips a word in this document only. Learn adds it to your Mac's dictionary, for every app. Press Escape to close the panel.
The panel's checkboxes are the Highlight commands for the front window. Its language menu sets the language for the front window. System Default uses the language chosen in System Settings > Keyboard > Text Input.
